Auto Off Topic
Auto Off Topic is a weekly podcast where we talk cars, adventures with cars or anything that might be related to cars. We’ll even have the occasional guest. We’ll share the highs and lows of old car/project car ownership. We’ll tell cautionary tales about rusty bolts, blown head gaskets, snapped timing belts, spun bearings, janky wiring and how we fixed them. When not wrenching, we enjoy back road driving and our local Cars and Coffee. The hosts Brad DeSantis and Andrew Pascarella are two car enthusiasts who have been best friends for over 30 years. Auto Off Topic is based in Peabody Ma and Phoenix Az. Our closing song is part of ”Z/28” is graciously provided by the band Z/28. Holy Cow, episode 10 guys! Making good on our 2017 resolution we have our first guest; Jared Robinson (Chapel) on the internets. We quickly remind everyone of our Mitsubishi coloring contest. Then we Breeze through some project car updates, both 1:1 and 1/24th scale. Andrew bought another Montero and listener Rob V. is sending Brad a used head for the Raider. Brad and Andrew have run in the same car enthusiast circles with Jared for the better part of the last 10 years, so we sat down and had a nice chat about Jared's car history, which is long and varied. We also discovered that our parents may have all run in the same street racing circles during the early 70s. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it. Look for more guests on the show, at least once a month. We also added some new audio equipment to slowly but surely increase our audio quality. Happy new Year from us at the Auto Off Topic Podcast. Thanks for listening and even though we've only done 9 episodes at the end of 2016. The positive responses from you fine folks has been great. To kick off the new year Andrew announces an exciting contest after giving Brad his Christmas gift. Check the FB page for details. Brad and Andrew cranked on a couple of Brad's cars this week. The Saab gets new "breaks" as they say on Craiglist and the Raider loses its head. Sweet Progress! Andrew nearly bought another Montero and spent some quality alone time building the new Lego Caterham kit. Brad got a couple cool diecasts for Christmas and Andrew picked up ANOTHER EVO model kit. Then we answer a couple listener questions. We're super pumped for what 2017 has in store, again thanks for listening. We say this is a non-denominational holiday winter solstice episode and then reminisce about Christmas's past, sorry not sorry. We give tasting notes on Polar Seltzer's holiday mystery flavor. Andrew gets triggered by words on windshields. Brad wants to roll coal. Then we talk about the types of gifts they would get as kids and adults, (spoiler alert, it was a lot of car related gifts). In scaled project cars, Christmas is the best time to go Hotwheels hunting. The Fujimi Evo kit isn't really that great. It turns out both Andrew and Brad like Irving Berlin's White Christmas because we discuss how some of our favorite Christmas movies have some sort of a cool car in them. Botched not kludgy. The bottom of the Garbage Montero is covered in oil and it's not from the drivetrain leaking; this time. Brad and Andrew discuss owning old houses and how it's similar in some ways to owning old cars. They discuss some botched repairs they've had to fix in both old cars and old houses. There are some jobs we do need to call in the experts for, at least when it comes to home repair. We then answer some listener questions and give a small update to our scaled project cars. No listener questions this week. Please rate, review and share the podcast. We discuss Grand Gear Top Tour for a bit and what the hell is Drive Tribe. Brad and Andrew then get nostalgic for the way the internet used to be, while we discuss how the internet and social media has affected our car lives. We briefly discuss our Scaled Project car EVO builds and take some serious and not so serious listener questions. Finally, Andrew completely forgot to plug our social media this week, womp womp.
